VETERAN former Tipperary star Liam Maher was the toast of Boherlahan Dualla as his last-minute point brought the Tipperary senior hurling title to the parish for the first time since 1941 when beating favourites Toomevara in a thriller at Thurles yesterday.

Toome looked the better team from the start. Kevin Kennedy, back in the side after injury, struck a telling blow for them with a 14th minute goal and they went on to lead 1-7 to 0-5 at halftime although facing the fresh breeze.

Boherlahan showed great character in a pulsating second half.

They had a Philip O'Dwyer goal in the 41st minute which really inspired them and by the 58th minute they had drawn level.

Then Maher showed the value of his vast experience when cooly slotting home the winning point in the last minute.

Boherlahan had many heroes on the day with William Hickey, David Ryan, JJ McGrath, Ger Flanagan and Philip O'Dwyer making major contributions to the success.

Toomevara were greatly disappointed but no blame could be attached to Jody Grace, Michael O'Meara, Tony Delaney, Tomrny Dunne, Terry Dunne and Kevin Kennedy.
