THE Republic of Ireland under-15s qualified for the quarter-finals of the prestigious international tournament in Montague, France, by beating Hungary 2-1 in the second match of their three-team group yesterday.
Hungary took the lead after five minutes when they scored from just outside the Irish area but in the 21st minute Dave McMahon (Tolka Rovers) had Ireland level when he converted a cross form Brendan McGill (Rivervalley Rangers).
Six minutes later John O'Shea (Bohemians/ Waterford) scored the winner when he headed home a corner from the left by Paul Forsyth (Belvedere Boys).
Irish team manager Vinny Butler said all players would get a run against the Algerians as the squad warms up for their quarter-final which will be played on Thursday. Tomorrow is a rest day.
