Spaniard Daniel Plaza, gold medallist in the 20 km walk at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, has been suspended for two years after failing a dope test in June 1996. The athlete, who tested positive for the steroid nandralone after the 1996 Spanish championships in Malaga, has denied taking the drug and yesterday threatened legal action against Spain's Superior Sports Council, the body behind the decision.
