Team Check: Rainbow worry for Kildare

Kildare SF

Kildare SF

Anthony Rainbow is the latest injury concern ahead of Sunday's meeting with Meath at Croke Park. Mick O'Dwyer is due to select his team this evening but the shoulder injury to Rainbow, suffered in a practice game over the weekend, may force him to leave a vacancy until later in the week.

Definitely ruled out is midfielder Willie McCreery, who is suspended after being sent off in the game against Carlow, and Glen Ryan, who is still suffering from an ankle-ligament injury picked up in the Carlow game. Niall Buckley is almost certain to get a starting place as a result.

With confirmation that John McDermott suffered a broken toe during his comeback match in Navan last Saturday, manager Sean Boylan still faces a few selection dilemmas. Enda McManus is also doubtful due to a groin injury suffered while playing for his club, but it is expected that the team will be announced after training this evening.

The team to play Cork on Sunday is expected to be named tomorrow but there are significant injury problems within the panel. Martin Daly is still troubled by a chronic back injury and has been advised to retire, defender Conor Whelan suffered a recent cruciate ligament injury, and forward Ger Keane is also ruled out with a disc problem.

Further injury doubts surround Barry Keating, Donal O'Sullivan and Denis O'Driscoll - with Keating almost certain to be forced out. All six of those players were part of the team that fell to Kerry in last year's championship.

Michael O'Shea, a minor from two years ago, is expected to be the only debut called up for senior duty. Despite the scale of the challenge facing Clare, there is still some excitement within the camp, especially with the draw against Laois in the second round of the All-Ireland qualifiers.

Cork S F

Defender Michael O'Donovan is the main concern for manager Larry Tompkins ahead of Sunday's meeting with Clare. A recent shoulder injury is expected to rule O'Donovan out, adding to the already absent BO]Sean O hAilpin - who is out for the summer after a knee injury. The team will be selected after training this evening.

Mickey Graham and Gerry Sheridan are the two main injury worries for manager Val Andrews ahead of Sunday's Ulster semi-final against Monaghan in Clones. Graham injured his ankle in the win over Down and is still struggling to regain full fitness while Sheridan recently suffered a dislocated finger.

A couple of other players are suffering with the 'flu but Andrews will name his team hopeful that both players may yet be available to start.

Monaghan SF

Manager Jack McCarville has no injury concerns at the moment, and the team will be named tonight. But Saturday's warm-up challenge with Meath proved to be a difficult experience, as the team went down by 18-points - 2-18 to 0-6.

Dublin SF

Ciaran Whelan won't be out of action for long despite suffering a minor concussion in the course of Sunday's win over Offaly at Croke Park. Whelan was clearly below his best after picking up the injury early in the game but is expected to be back to full training before the end of the week.

Offaly SF

Colm Quinn is the major injury worry for manager Padraig Nolan following Sunday's loss to Dublin. Quinn came off with a hamstring injury before the end of the first half and is almost certain to miss Saturday's second round qualifier against Louth in Navan on Sunday.

Corner forward Neville Coughlan suffered an ankle injury in the course of the game and also made an early exit but he is more hopeful of being fit.

The Offaly/Louth All-Ireland qualifier will be televised on Network 2 next Saturday evening, throw-in 6.15 p.m.
