Australia's top sporting officials have called on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to expel sports that refuse to comply with world drug standards.

"This is where we need to regain the moral high ground," Australian IOC delegate Kevan Gosper said. "Maybe the public and the corporate world views that the IOC leadership is not coming up with new initiatives and ideas."

The Sydney Morning Herald also reported that Australia's second IOC member, Phil Coles, said sports which refuse to accept the IOC's push for common doping rules should be expelled from the organisation.

"In my view there has to be a very strong case against a sport that can't produce clean athletes and clean sport," he said. "I would think that cycling at the moment is in a very precarious position."
