Munster SF First Round/Kilkee 1-11 Monaleen 0-6: An eight-point victory was the least Kilkee deserved as they demolished Monaleen in the Munster Club SFC replay at Cooraclare on Saturday.
Six days earlier the Limerick champions had come from behind and earned a draw thanks to a fine Muiris Gavin free. But this was a game Gavin and his team-mates will want to forget in a hurry.
Kilkee enjoyed a 0-5 to 0-0 lead early on and when Derek de Loughrey registered the only goal of the game in the 28th minute the writing was on the wall for the Shannonsiders. Minutes earlier Ger Keane was through on goal but scored a point when a goal was at his mercy. A point just before half-time by man of the match Barry Harte made it 1-8 to 0-2 at the interval.
Monaleen had no answer to Senan's running game and even when they did get some possession they found it incredibly difficult to unhinge a well- drilled Kilkee defence.
Gavin scored his second and Monaleen's third point ten minutes into the second half but when Kilkee substitute Gearoid Lynch pointed from the left wing in the 43rd minute the final outcome was inevitable. Two more pointed frees from Gavin and an Eoin Keating effort from play on the hour was all Kilkee conceded and even though they themselves only managed three second half scores, the cushion the Clare men established during the first half ensured their success.
