GARY STEVENS will warm up for Royal Ascot by riding at Sandown on Saturday, his first mounts in Britain for 10 years. The top American jockey, in Europe for a 10 day visit, has been booked by David Loder for two live contenders.
He will partner Pontefract winner Wellspring in the Leicester Square Conditions Stakes. And he rides Shawm, beaten into sixth place on his handicap debut at Epsom last week, in the Grosvenor Square Maiden Stakes.
Stevens, a four time Breeders Cup winner, arrived in England yesterday but is now in Ireland where he is expected to ride work. He is hoping to land some good rides at Royal Ascot next week and has already secured the mount on Almaty in the Kings Stand Stakes.
. Willie Ryan, the Epsom Derby winning jockey, has been booked to ride Fan in the German equivalent of the Dante Stakes, the Group Two Oppenheim Colonia Union Rennen (1m 3f), in Cologne on Sunday. Fan, one of three Andreas Wohler runners, was seventh to Clive Brittain's Air Express in the Mehl Mulhens Rennen (German 2,000 Guineas) last month.
