ST MARK'S Community School in Tallaght yesterday celebrated a year in which their past pupils shared success on the sports field in three different codes Gaelic football, soccer and hockey. Wayne Daly, a member of the Dublin panel, brought along the Sam Maguire Cup for the present pupils and staff to admire in the assembly hall Alan Browne and Clinton Murphy represented nine members of the Glenanne squad which carried off the Leinster Senior Hockey Cup for the first time while Jason Byrne figured in the Patrick's Athletic team which won soccer's National League title.
Special mention was made of the particularly strong links between the school and the Glenanne club in hockey circles, notably in both benefiting from one of the first astro turf pitches to be laid in Leinster.
Veteran coach Gerry McNamara has seen a score of his players represent Ireland at under age level, including Ciaran Bolger, Paul Fitzpatrick, Roland O'Donoghue, Devon Kehoe and Ian Bolger, John Goulding, Mark Lambe and Murphy were also members of this season's successful Glenanne side.
