Hanley hits form
Equestrian: Cameron Hanley, who will be bidding for a place on Ireland's Aga Khan team at the Dublin Horse Show on Friday, won the Rambler's Rest Grand Prix at Dún Laoghaire show yesterday, writes Grania Willis.
Robert Splaine, whose attention turns to picking the best quartet for Friday's Aga Khan in his role as team manager, brought out Coolcorran Cool Diamond to clock 29.16 for second ahead of Conor Swail, who holds a 13-point advantage over Francis Connors in the Boswell Equestrian National Grand Prix League standings.
Power prevails
Cycling: Navigators Insurance professional Ciarán Power yesterday won the Crotty Cup race in Kilrush, beating Timmy Barry (Dan Morrissey/Carrick Wheelers) and Paul Griffin (Giant Asia), writes Shane Stokes.
Meanwhile race leader Jens Voigt won the sixth stage of the Tour of Germany at the summit finish of Sankt Anton in Austria. He beat champion Levi Leipheimer (Gerolsteiner) by two seconds.
Ireland's Mark Scanlon finished 140th, 21 minutes, 45 seconds down. He lies 134th overall, 39 minutes and 26 seconds behind Voigt.
