Hearing clears Hendry, White

Stephen Hendry and Jimmy White have been cleared of committing an offence after failing to submit to drug tests at a charity event in Belgium.

Refusal to submit to random tests in Belgium is taken as tantamount to a positive sample and can see bans of between three months and two years invoked.

However, following an anti-doping tribunal in Brussels, which was attended by both players and their legal representative, the pair have avoided punishment.

According to Hendry's management company, the tribunal accepted that neither player knew they were obliged to provide a sample, nor were they approached directly to do so.

Power ready to resume in US

Following a good showing in the FBD Insurance Rás, Ciarán Power flew to the US yesterday in order to resume competition with his Navigators Insurance pro team, writes Shane Stokes.

He hasn't raced with the team since last September, the Waterford rider missing the early part of this season due to an operation to correct a blood flow obstruction.

Power has only been back racing one month but despite that lack of competition, he won two stages in the Rás and took the King of the Mountains competition.

He will be part of the Navigators squad for the Philadelphia Triple Crown series (June 4th - 11th), then ride the Tour de Beauce in Canada from June 13th to 18th.

McCullough bout cancelled

Wayne McCullough's fight with Israel Vasquez has been cancelled. The Vasquez camp had agreed the Mexican would put his WBC super bantamweight title on the line against 35-year-old Las Vegas-based McCullough in Atlantic City on June 10th.

But promoters Sycuan insisted Vasquez meet his fellow Mexican Ivan Hernandez.

According to a source in McCullough camp, he still hopes to meet Vasquez sometime this summer or in the autumn.

"Wayne had been preparing very hard for the June 10th fight but we were told yesterday that it has been cancelled, which is very frustrating all round. But Wayne will be looking to meet Vasquez in the next few months", a spokesperson said.
