Tottenham 3 QPR 1: Spurs are up to fifth in the Premier League after a 3-1 win over QPR at White Hart Lane. Gareth Bale and Rafael van der Vaart fired a rampant Spurs side into a 2-0 lead at half-time, with only the heroics of Paddy Kenny keeping the score down.
QPR made two changes at the break and came out with far greater purpose and deservedly halved their deficit through one of their subs Jay Bothroyd, but Bale settled the nerves when curling home a superb third goal for the home side after linking up nicely with Aaron Lennon.
The win - Spurs' sixth in their last seven league games - sees them leapfrog Liverpool in the table and move level on points with Chelsea and Newcastle.
Bale believes Tottenham’s confidence is growing after they stretched their unbeaten run to seven games in the league.
“It’s just good to get goals and the three points that lifts us into the top six,” Bale told Sky Sports One. “It was a great team performance today.
On his second goal, he added: "They were just starting to come on top and putting a bit of pressure on us and it was a very important goal.
“The confidence is growing. We’ve been playing well and concentrating on our own football. Scoring goals is part of our game and we’ve been doing that.”
Man-of-the-match Scott Parker is backing Spurs to do well this season as they continue to string good performances together.
“I think they came out in the second half and put us under a bit of pressure but overall we fully deserved the win,” Parker said. “We played some good football.
“I’m enjoying it immensely and playing alongside players like Gareth and winning games is nice as well. We can go places this year if we believe in ourselves and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”
