Bray Wanderers 3 Wexford Youths 0

Bray ended their 10-game streak without a win in all competitions to move above Wexford in the Airtricity League Premier Division table.

It was the first ever competitive match between the clubs at the Carlisle Grounds on Saturday evening, Wanderers picked up their first victory since last April as they climbed out of the play-off spot to swap places with the Slaneysiders on goal-difference.

Dean Kelly’s third league of the season in the 32nd minute ended the season top-flight goal drought of 302 minutes. They doubled that lead just minutes after the interval.

Gareth McDonagh’s brilliant end-line cross just three minutes after the interval saw Andrew Lewis powerfully head in his fifth of the campaign.

Yet Wanderers had to be thankful to goalkeeper Peter Cherrie to prevent the visitors getting back into the tie when he made fantastic 55th minute reaction save to out Ryan Delaney’s header.

The Wicklow club’s third arrived in the 57th minute.

Irish Under-21 cap Dylan Connolly burst from his own half and crossed from the left wing to pick out Karl Moore. His header appeared to be saved by Graham Doyle. But assistant referee Trevor Cotter deemed the ball had crossed the line.
