SPL Review:Substitute Michael Higdon came off the bench to grab the goal which gave Falkirk a 1-0 win over Inverness to secure the Bairns' place in the Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League and send Terry Butcher's side into the First Division.
The hosts had the better of the first half with Richie Foran missing a glorious chance from just six yards out but the game turned when Inverness veteran Ross Tokely was sent off six minutes before the break after hauling down Steve Lovell as the Bairns striker charged towards goal.
And John Hughes' Falkirk made their one-man advantage count when Higdon, on the pitch for just three minutes after replacing Lovell, stabbed home Jackie McNamara's superb low ball into the box to send the visiting fans into raptures.
Inverness battled hard to find an equaliser but it was Falkirk who could, and should, have wrapped up the victory when Carl Finnigan somehow shot over the bar from just six yards out.
St Mirren went down to a 1-0 home defeat to Hamilton but stay in the SPL on goal difference.
Simon Mensing took advantage of some slack Saints defending to head the Accies in front after 28 minutes and that is the way it stayed, meaning Gus MacPherson's men have still to win a league game at the New St Mirren Park.
Meanwhile, James McCarthy was replaced with seven minutes to go in what could be his last game for Hamilton with the likes of Celtic and Portsmouth credited with an interest in the teenager.
In the other game, goals from Daniele Invincibile and Mehdi Taouil gave Kilmarnock a 2-1 at Fir Park against Motherwell.
Brian McLean had brought the hosts back onto level terms with ten minutes to go but Taouil's last-minute goal means Jim Jefferies' side bow out on a high.
