Colin Healy will link up with fellow Leesider Roy Keane after completing his transfer from Cork City to Ipswich Town. The midfielder has put pen to paper on a two-year deal.
Having completed a medical and agreed personal terms yesterday, the Irish international trained with the Tractor Boys this morning and could make his debut when Ipswich meet Colchester in a pre-season friendly tomorrow.
The 29-year-old had been expected to follow Denis Behan to Hartlepool after Cork accepted an offer for both players last week but Keane’s late intervention scotched that move.
Healy, who started his career with Celtic and had spells with Sunderland, Coventry, Barnsley and Livingstone, went on trial at at Portman Road in 2006, but failed to win a contract from then manager Jim Magilton and returned home to his native Cork.
How much Ipswich paid for Healy was not disclosed but, considering that cash-strapped City were prepared to let both Healy and Behan go for a combined fee of €50,000, it is unlikely to have topped that figure.
Keith Treacy, meanwhile, has joined Sheffield United on loan from Blackburn Rovers until January. The 20-year-old left-winger made just nine starts in his 20 appearances last season.
Manager Sam Allardyce is keen for the player to gain more experience and has allowed him to join the Championship club for a short spell.
