Everton agree deal to sign Saha

Everton have agreed a deal to sign Manchester United's Louis Saha for an undisclosed fee, subject to a medical

Everton have agreed a deal to sign Manchester United's Louis Saha for an undisclosed fee, subject to a medical. The Toffees have offered the France striker a two-year contract with the option of a one-year extension.

The 30-year-old former Newcastle and Fulham forward will become Everton's third signing in a week following the captures of Lars Jacobsen and Segundo Castillo providing he is passed fit by the club's medical staff.

Saha, whose spell at Old Trafford was beset by injuries, has 18 international caps and scored 42 goals during his United career.

Saha's arrival significantly strengthens Everton's attacking options and caps off a busy few days for boss David Moyes, who admitted last week that his resources were too thin for the rigours of a Premier League campaign.

He has since signed former Nuremburg player Jacobsen on a free transfer and secured a year-long loan deal for Red Star Belgrade midfielder Castillo.

The Scot's hopes of bringing Juventus' former Chelsea playmaker Tiago hit the rocks when the player turned down a move to Merseyside but there could be further additions before the end of the month, with Nigeria striker Victor Obinna also a target.

Another player linked with Everton, Rennes' Cameroon midfielder Stephane Mbia, looks like he will be denied the chance to move to the club.

The Cameroon midfielder has suggested the Toffees have made an offer for him but Rennes are determined to keep hold of the 22-year-old and have informed the player he will not be leaving the Route de Lorient.

"We have made Stephane understand that he will be staying at Rennes and he understood it," said Pierre Dreossi, the general manager of the Brittany club.

"It is all sorted out."

Mbia, who has just returned from Olympic Games duty in Beijing, did not play for Rennes in their UEFA Cup qualifier against Stabaek on Thursday and is still believed to be keen on completing the switch to Goodison Park.

Moyes was also keen on taking Espanyol winger Albert Riera to Goodison and Everton are believed to have bid in the region of €15million for the player but he is now expected at Anfield for a medical after a €10million fee was a agreed between the two clubs.
