Drogheda confirm Kendrick move

League champions Drogheda United have secured their fourth off-season signing by adding full-back Joe Kendrick to their books.

The former Newcastle United and 1860 Munich left back has penned a two-year deal and could prove a valuable addition following Simon Webb's decision to leave.

Webb, one of the club's most experienced players, has taken a break from the game following the death of his wife in 2006.  He moved to Brazil before Christmas.

Kendrick was on trial at United Park in the early part of last season before signing for English Conference side Workington.  He has also played for Darlington and Tamworth Town.

"The ambition of the club is excellent and that's one of my main reasons for signing. I hope we can continue on from the success of previous years, and in terms of potential, the sky's the limit," he said.

The 24-year-old becomes manager Paul Doolin's fourth signing following the arrivals of Sean Prunty, Shaun Maher and Adam Hughes.

"Joe's a very good young player, and he fits in to our plans for the future," said Doolin.

"Having seen him training with the lads, he certainly doesn't look out of place, and he'll be a tremendous addition to the squad."

Galway United have signed 20-year-old midfielder Gary Deegan from Longford Town

"Gary, despite his young age, has proven he can compete comfortably at the highest level and I'm sure he'll give us that extra bite in the centre of midfield," said manager Tony Cousins.

"He was sorely missed by Longford Town in their FAI Cup final appearance last December due to suspension."
