MEATH SFC FINAL Seneschalstown 1-13 Wolfe Tones 1-13 (AET 1-9 each after normal time)SENESCHALSTOWN AND Wolfe Tones will have to do it all again after extra-time failed to separate them in a county final which was lacking in quality fare at Páirc Tailteann yesterday.

Tones, with the wind, got the perfect start with Cian Ward taking a pass from Alan Fox and firing to the net in the second minute. With Ward converting a free from 55 metres, they led by 1-1 to no score. Seneschalstown’s goal came on 10 minutes when Gary Conlon fisted in after Shane Clarke miss-hit a free.

Wolfe Tones regained the initiative to lead 1-6 to 1-2 and Ward could have had a second goal near the half-hour mark but for goalkeeper Davy Lyons.

Ward put Tones into a five-point lead soon after the restart and although winning lots of ball, Seneschalstown were finding it difficult to score. But with Stephen Finnegan putting over some good points from play, they clawed their way back.

On the hour Joe Sheridan earned a free which brother Brian popped over and they looked set for a fourth title when Finnegan shot over in added time. Wolfe Tones mounted a desperate attack and Seneschalstown corner-back Gerry Sheridan was penalised for overcarrying. Ward made no mistake from the 20-metre free.

In extra-time Seneschalstown held a one-point lead after the first half. Points from Darren McGrath and Stephen Sheppard regained the lead for Tones before Brian Sheridan (free) had the sides level for the sixth time. Ward edged Tones back into the lead, but Seneschalstown levelled matters again with a Brian Sheridan free.

The replay is fixed for this Thursday evening at 7.30pm, with the winners due to face Portlaoise next Sunday.
