Spectacular Cuthbert try seals Cardiff’s victory over Glasgow

An incredible 75-yard gallop by Lions wing Alex Cuthbert clinched Heineken Cup victory for Cardiff Blues before 6,144 ecstatic fans at the Arms Park.

Rhys Patchell had crossed in the first half and kicked a penalty, while Leigh Halfpenny, contributed 16 points with the boot.

The Blues were without six other Wales players – including national captain Sam Warburton – injured in the four-match international autumn programme.

Halfpenny put Cardiff in front with a penalty before young fly-half Patchell doubled the Blues lead with a monster penalty from well over halfway. Then Glasgow fly-half Dougie Weir knocked on behind his own line and Patchell darted over from the resulting five-metre scrum.

Halfpenny converted and added another penalty as Cardiff went 16 points in front.

But Glasgow hit back for a try from Lions wing Sean Maitlan. Weir added the extras with the last kick of the half.

Halfpenny (two) and Weir (two) exchanged penalties and with just 10 minutes remaining Cuthbert put matters beyond doubt when he intercepted a loose pass deep in his own half and raced 75 yards to score. Halfpenny converted but a Glasgow had the last word with a try by Fijian replacement Leone Nakarawa, converted by Weir.
