Leinster resolving issue of season ticket holders being charged extra

Leinster have moved to correct a clerical error that has resulted in some of their season ticket holders having to pay additional customs charges for their ‘welcome packs.’

The packs, which come from the UK, were incorrectly categorised as goods for sale, whereas they were actually gifts from the Leinster franchise as part of the season ticket package. Some ticket holders, who received their packs were hit for a small duty charge as well as a charge from An Post.

“There was an issue with delivery, we have been in touch our suppliers and An Post,” said a Leinster official. “It was just a simple clerical error. The packages should have been marked as a gift. Instead they were marked as a sale of goods. Due to them being incorrectly marked at source there was a VAT of 36 cent due on it and an An Post charge of €3.50 off the back of that.

“What we have told all of our season ticket holders is that anyone who has paid for it will be fully reimbursed by Leinster Rugby. No problem. But we are also working with An Post and our suppliers to rectify it at source and we are confident we will have a solution.

“Some people got their packages with no customs issues whatsoever. But An Post have definitely sent letters to some supporters, not all, saying that their season ticket packs have been held back.”

Season tickets gain entry to all home United Rugby Championship and Heineken Champions Cup fixtures in the RDS and Aviva Stadium. They also gain entry to all Leinster ‘A’ games in Energia Park and all Leinster Women’s hone games in Energia Park but exclude all potential play-offs and finals. Prices vary for over 12,000 Leinster season ticket holders but can be as much as €749 for the best seats and €1289 for family tickets.
