News round-upTroubled Brazil striker Ronaldo trained with the team yesterday, insisting he "felt fine" and was looking forward to Brazil's next match after an illness scare.

He also admitted he had a poor game against Croatia on Tuesday, when he was hauled off during the 1-0 win in Berlin.

The 29-year-old, who scored both goals in Brazil's 2-0 final win four years ago, was taken to hospital after complaining of dizziness and headaches on Wednesday.

It recalled memories of 1998 when he fell victim to a mystery illness hours before Brazil's 3-0 World Cup final defeat by France.

"I felt quite sick during the day off (Wednesday) and at about three o'clock . . . the doctor decided to take me to hospital," he said.

"I went to hospital and did a series of tests. They didn't find anything abnormal. Today I feel fine. I feel fairly relaxed. It's nothing serious. I've been treated. Today I had a session in the gymnasium and I'm just thinking about the game against Australia.

"To be sincere I wasn't happy in my performance against Croatia but the most important thing was that we won," Ronaldo said.

Police have charged 64 people with criminal offences following clashes before Germany's match with Poland on Wednesday in by far the worst outbreak of trouble at the tournament so far.

A spokesman said yesterday 429 fans - including 278 Germans and 119 Poles - were detained either because they were known hooligans or their behaviour was aggressive and threatening.

By yesterday morning police had released all but three, after charging 64 with offences ranging from damage of property to serious bodily harm.

Tottenham's interest in Blackburn midfielder Steven Reid has prompted Rovers manager Mark Hughes to plan talks with the player in a bid to clarify his situation.

The big-spending Londoners have had a £2-million bid for the former Millwall player rejected by Rovers, whose chairman, John Williams, admitted they had received an enquiry about Reid but refused to confirm it was from Spurs.

Reid has a year remaining on his contract at Ewood Park but has so far not committed himself to a four-year deal on offer from the club.

Meanwhile, Birmingham are reported to have been linked with a swoop for Tottenham's reserve centre back Calum Davenport.

The Blues are expected to follow-up their initial interest in the Spurs player with a firm bid shortly.

The £1.5 million-rated defender is keen to resurrect his career after an unhappy spell at White Hart Lane.
