Grant Robinson from Rossnowlagh, Co Donegal, took gold for Ireland in the European Surfing Championships which concluded in Bundoran on Saturday. Three big six-foot rides from out the back had the other finalists needing a perfect score with eight minutes to go in the final. This gave the home crowd, estimated at nearly 3,000, lots of time to cheer Robinson to Ireland's first ever surfing gold medal.
