"There's no doubt that Sonia O'Sullivan's silver medal is my number one memory of the year. But I also think our showjumping team did tremendously well in Sydney, especially in the three-day event. I just long for the day when we win Olympic medals because Ireland has won everything else in the event. I also enjoyed watching the Irish soccer team's World Cup qualifiers. I'm not a huge soccer man and I don't actually support any team in the Premiership, but I am a big fan of the Irish soccer team, and I just hope they make it to the World Cup, especially for all the fans. And my sporting hero of the year would be all the volunteers in Sydney who made the Olympics the incredible occasion that they were."
