Ireland’s male boxers will depart to France this morning for their last competitive outing ahead of the start of the Olympic Games in London.

Irish 2012 Olympians Paddy Barnes, Michael Conlan, John Joe Nevin, Adam Nolan and Darren O’Neill have been named in a nine-strong squad for a round-robin tournament involving the host nation, Germany, Morocco and Sweden in Calais.

Joe Ward has also been named in the Irish panel, along with David Oliver Joyce, Ross Hickey and Steven Ward.

Joe Ward is hoping to get an invitation for London and awaits the decision of the Tripartite Commission. Originally due to meet on June 3rd, the date has been pushed back to at least June 11th.
