The celebrations lasted long into the evening in Carrickmacross on Sunday night when Nuremore Golf Club won their first Pierce Purcell Shield at Knock Golf Club just outside Belfast. It was a tremendous achievement for this young club which is attached to the Nuremore Hotel in Carrickmacross and has just over 100 members.

They beat Letterkenny 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 in an exciting final when four of the five matches went to the 18th hole. In the end P J Ward sank the winning putt.

Stackstown are in a strong position to lift the Barton Cup for the first time. The south Dublin club hold a 3-2 lead over Lucan after the first leg in Lucan and will be strong favourites when the second leg is completed on Saturday, September 12th.
