Mullally decides 'it's time to go'

NEWS ROUND-UP:RICHIE MULLALLY has announced his retirement from intercounty hurling. The Glenmore man – who has five All-Ireland winners' medals – burst on to the scene for Kilkenny in 2001.

“I can have no complaints,” the 31-year-old told the Kilkenny People newspaper. “I arrived on the scene during a fantastic era for Kilkenny. I am sad to leave, of course, but it is that time in my life when I have to move on. . . You have to know when it’s time to go.”

Meanwhile, Toomevara forward Willie Ryan has been chosen as the captain of the Tipperary senior hurling team for 2009.

Dublin senior hurling manager Anthony Daly has made three changes for the Walsh Shield final against Offaly tomorrow at Banagher (2pm). Niall Corcoran, John Kelly and Peadar Carton have all been given the call.

In the Walsh Cup final, Galway meet Kilkenny at Freshford tomorrow (2pm).
