JAMESON Irish Grand National winner Mudahim has the chance to complete an historic double in the Whitbread Gold Cup a fortnight on Saturday. The 11-year-old may bid to become the first Fairyhouse winner to go on to land the Sandown feature in the same season.
Mudahim, whose narrow Fairyhouse success last week gave Jenny Pitman a full set of Grand National victories, was among 22 acceptors yesterday for the 41st running of the Whitbread. The two Irish acceptors are Papillon, trained by Ted Walsh, who was fourth to Mudahim at Fairyhouse, and Arthur Moore's Feathered Gale, who was pulled up at Aintree on Monday.
No fewer than 26 horses were taken out of the £100,000 contest at the forfeit stage and the field is certain to cut further.
