This week, we have two South African wines from SuperValu. The family-owned and -operated firm of Niel Joubert owns a very large 260-hectare farm in Paarl. Here they grow a wide variety of different grape varieties.

13.5%, €12.99 (down from €17 from August 7th to 12th)

This is a classic South African chenin blanc, rich in succulent tropical fruits cut through with a refreshing citrus acidity. There is a touch of oak. This would go nicely with grilled fish, roast chicken or a creamy Brie or Camembert.

14.5%, €12.99 (down from €17 from August 7th to 12th)

Quite developed at this stage, with leafy red fruits, spice, tobacco leaf and dark chocolate with smooth tannins on the finish. Enjoy this with a grilled steak or a braai, a South African-style barbecue.
