Morning inspection at Sedgefield

RACING: Racing has been hit hard by the wet spell and Southwell's all-weather fixture is the only meeting not expecting problems today. Sedgefield have called an inspection for 7.0 a.m. to determine whether their jumps meeting can go ahead.

The track is described as heavy, waterlogged in places, but clerk of the course James Armstrong wants to see how the day develops before making any decision.

"We are forecast possibly another five millimetres of rain today," he said. "The evening should be predominantly dry but we are forecast more rain tomorrow morning, between five and eight millimetres. It's not looking great but we must give it every chance."

The other scheduled jumps meeting at Leicester had already been abandoned due to a waterlogged track. An inspection found the hurdles course unraceable and clerk of the course Nick Lees does not expect conditions to improve.

"It's been raining on and off all morning and there's more to come," he said. "The hurdles track is waterlogged. The chase course is soft and we would have been fine on that."

Punters were also light on turf action yesterday with only the all-weather meeting at Wolverhampton going ahead after Fontwell and Wetherby were forced to abandon.

Tomorrow's meeting at Hexham has been abandoned already due to waterlogging but Fakenham are confident of their meeting going ahead.

Clerk of the course David Hunt predicts no problems for the fixture.
