US OPEN: Colin Montgomerie is among a number of late withdrawals from today's 36-hole US Open qualifier at Walton Heath.
The Ryder Cup captain was due to tee off at 8.20am, but pulled out after a closing 76 in the PGA Championship at Wentworth.
The qualifier sees fewer than 80 players competing for 11 spots at Bethpage Black, but his World Cup-winning partner Marc Warren withdrew as well after also scoring 76.
Montgomerie has not had a top-10 since he was runner-up in the French Open last June.
Still in the field are his former Ryder Cup team-mates Paul McGinley, David Howell, Niclas Fasth and Thomas Levet.
US SENIORS: American Michael Allen ended a two-decade drought when tasting victory at the Senior PGA Championship at Canterbury GC, in Beachwood, Ohio, yesterday.
Allen shot a final-round 67 for a six-under-par total of 274 to finish two shots clear of Larry Mize, who also shot 67 for 276. Bruce Fleisher took third place on 277 with Tom Watson next on 280 after a best-of-the-day 66.
CHALLENGE TOUR: Edoardo Molinari was congratulated by younger brother Francesco after a disciplined display on the final day of the Piemonte Open saw him complete a wire-to-wire win.
Fresh from signing for a round of 70 on the third day of the PGA Championship, Francesco hailed his brother’s victory as “fantastic”.
From the moment he opened up a two-shot lead on the second day at Golf Club La Mandria in his hometown of Turin, Molinari’s march to his third Challenge Tour title was never seriously in doubt.
A closing round of 70 for an 18-under-par total of 270 meant he finished four shots clear of his nearest rival, Gary Boyd, who maintains his place at the top of the rankings after holing his second shot for eagle on the final hole to close with a round of 69.
LET TOUR: France's Jade Schaeffer won the Women's German Open yesterday for her first LET victory. The 22-year-old from Strasbourg beat Spain's Paula Marti with a birdie at the first extra hole of a play-off.
Both players totalled 13-under 275, with Schaeffer closing with a five-under 67 to set the mark, before Marti matched her total with a final round of 73.
Schaeffer won by sinking a one-metre putt on the par-five 18th hole.
Martina Gillen closed with a 71 for a one-over-par total of 289.
