Golf:Rory McIlroy saw off a star-studded challenge to win his third tournament in four starts at the PGA Tour BMW Championship at Crooked Stick in Carmel, Indiana, this evening. The Northern Irishman won by two shots after a final round of 67 saw him beat overnight leader Phil Mickelson and playing partner Lee Westwood into a share of second.
The 20 under par victory further strengthens the Northern Irishman's hold on the world number one slot and the top ranking in the FedEx Cup money list ahead of the final play-off event at the Tour Championship at East Lake, Atlanta, Georgia on September 23rd.
"It's great to be able to win events like this where the quality of the field is so good," said McIlroy afterwards. He admitted he was a little more on his game last week when winning the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston, but "scrambled yesterday" to enter the final round trailing by one and "drove beautifully today" to give himself a chance at the flags.
