A POINTED free by Kerry's Pa O'Sullivan in the 57th minute earned his side a replay in this thrilling Munster under 21 football final at Tralee's Austin Stack Park last evening.
But the score that really brought Kerry back into contention came 10 minutes from the end when substitute Liam Brosnan sped off on a blistering solo run from inside his own half. He played a short pass to full forward Kieran O'Sullivan, ran on for the return pass and delightfully chipped the goalkeeper.
Cork got a tonic start with a goal inside 30 seconds. A long, high delivery from late replacement Michael O'Sullivan was unfortunately bundled over his own line by full back Barry O'Shea in a mix up with his goalkeeper, David Maloney.
Cork were awarded a penalty in the 15th minute following a foul on Timmie McCarthy, and Alan O'Regan made no mistake from the spot kick. Further points by O'Regan and Derek Barrett (free) increased their lead to five points - but a good closing spell by the home side produced 1-4 in the final 10 minutes of the half, their goal coming from Pa O'Sullivan.
Michael O'Sullivan opened the second half scoring with a point which was cancelled out by Brendan Hanafin. Timmie McCarthy levelled matters but Cork really emphasised their dominance with 1-2 in two minutes, their goal coming from Fionan Murray.
