MENS HOCKEY: Three Rock Rovers got the better of Corinthians and Aer Lingus at Serpentine Avenue at the weekend to win the Stephen Doyle Cup, a Christian Judd penalty stroke, in the dying seconds of extra time, clinching the trophy.

Colin Huet was Rovers' match winner against Corinthians on Saturday, his second-half goal giving them a 2-1 win, while Aer Lingus staged a great comeback against Pembroke Wanderers to beat the Leinster champions.

Pembroke had led 3-1 at half-time and 4-2 in the second half but Aer Lingus fought back for 4-4, Eamonn and David Bane among their scorers, before winning the penalty shoot-out 5-4.

They trailed again yesterday, Stephen Tilson putting Rovers 2-0 up in the final, but Derek O'Gorman pulled a goal back before half-time. The comeback appeared complete when Paddy Gahon and Adrian Sweeney put Aer Lingus 3-2 up but Robbie McFarlane levelled to force extra time. Another shoot-out loomed but Judd kept his composure to convert a late stroke to give Rovers their victory.
