WOMEN'S SIX NATIONS/Ireland 20 Scotland 0:IRELAND'S WOMEN were forced to defend for large sections of their clash at Ashbourne last night before putting a win beyond doubt with a well-taken try late on.

Ireland have now won three games in a row and will travel to England in good spirits and in with an outside chance of capturing the championship.

Head coach Philip Doyle’s side prospered out wide all evening and scored two of their three tries in the corners. The first score came after six minutes when Ashleigh Baxter set Niamh Kavanagh free down the right. The winger was held up short of the line but the ball was recycled quickly for Sophie Spence to crash over by the posts. Ireland upped their tempo in the final 15 minutes and were rewarded when quick passing swept the ball right to left for Alison Miller to dart over in the left-hand corner.
