GolfPortmarnock's Noel Fox has tasted considerable success during a glittering career, but being on the winning side in a Bonallack Trophy match would put the icing on the cake.

The 30-year-old, a member of the Irish side which won the European amateur team championships in Sweden three years ago, has the chance to add to his achievements this week as part of Europe's side taking on Asia Pacific.

The Ryder Cup-style match gets underway this morning over the magnificent Roma Acquasanta course five miles from the centre of Rome.

Brian McElhinney from the North West Club, the current European Individual champion, is also on the European side, and he and Fox are paired in this morning's opening fourballs.
