Meanwhile, also in Wales at Newport, Carlow teenager Tara Delaney put herself into a strong position to qualify for the knock-out stages of the Girls' British Open Amateur Championship with a splendid 73 in the first stroke-play round on a day when thunderstorms caused two interruptions to play.
