Horse Racing: The 2001 Doncaster St Leger winner Milan has been retired and will stand as a National Hunt stallion at Coolmore Stud next year.

The Sadlers Wells colt hasn't run since incurring a serious leg injury on his first start as a four-year-old in the Mooresbridge Stakes at the Curragh last season.

Milan's finest moment was when running out an easy winner of the Leger but his last start as a three year old saw him run second to Fantastic Light in the Breeders Cup Turf at Belmont Park.

Meanwhile, Kentucky Derby winner Funny Cide is reported to be improving after his defeat in Sunday's Haskell Invitational Stakes at Monmouth.

The three-year-old gelding, who also won the Preakness Stakes, was found to be running a temperature after finishing a distant third behind Peace Rules.

Connections felt the temperature may have impaired Funny Cide's performance and they also believe he may have been hit by a clod of dirt during the race as he kept one eye closed on Monday.

Connections are still awaiting the results of blood tests.
