Finn Harps ... 1 Cork City ... 1Finn Harps were left to rue a second-half penalty miss by fullback Jonathan Minnock as Cork City came from behind to secure a draw in a thrilling FAI Cup quarter-final in Ballybofey on Saturday night.
The first division side stunned Cork with a lively opening to the second half which saw them take the lead in the 50th minute when Minnock's free-kick flew past Michael Devine from 25 yards. However, the Harps hero turned villain in the 58th minute when he put a penalty wide of the post after Jonathan Speak had been pushed by Alan Carey.
Cork upped the tempo again in search of an equaliser and were back on level terms in the 61st minute when George O'Callaghan headed home from Gareth Cronin's deep cross.
The Premier Division side might even have gone ahead after that, but Billy Woods saw his shot smack off the crossbar in the 71st minute while a minute later James O'Flynn was denied by a terrific save from Alan Young. The Harps goalkeeper was lucky to escape in the 25th minute when he dropped a cross to the feet of Colm O'Brien but saw the Corkman shot wide.
However, while Cork had the best of the chances in the first half they will know they were lucky to share the spoils as Harps might have stolen the game at the death. It took a marvellous save from Devine to deny Kevin McHugh in the 89th minute while a minute into injury time Speak shot inches past the post.
The teams must meet again tomorrow night to decide who goes through to the semi-finals.
