Gonzaga College 20 Newbridge College 6: Gonzaga defeated Newbridge with tries either side of half-time from openside David Doyle and centre William McEvoy in the Leinster Schools (Section B) Vinnie Murray Cup quarter-final at Clane yesterday.
Newbridge moved into a 6-0 lead through the boot of centre Ronan Skehan only for Doyle to strike from long distance in the 32nd minute and McEvoy to break through again early into the second period.
McEvoy converted both and kicked two penalties to press home Gonzaga's advantage in a gale force wind with scrumhalf John Cooney directing traffic and blindside Dominic Ryan and hooker Nicholas Rutledge to the fore.
Gonzaga will contest the Vinnie Murray semi-final against St Columba's College and qualify for the first round of the Leinster Senior Cup where they will come into contact with Kilkenny College next week.
