Godolphin's representatives Cape Cross and Josr Algarhoud dominate the five-runner Celebration Mile at Goodwood today. Frankie Dettori has chosen the latter ahead of Queen Anne Stakes winner Cape Cross and the hint should be taken.
This Group Two event looks ready-made for the progressive Josr Algarhoud. A smart juvenile with Mick Channon last year, this well-made son of Darshaan finished his first season with a win in the Gimcrack Stakes at York but did not reappear due to a setback in the spring until the Group Three Reed Print Beeswing Stakes at Newcastle last month. He looked in good nick and ran accordingly.
The colt tracked the leader until making his effort two furlongs out and soon quickened into the lead, running on strongly to beat Haami by two lengths.
The runner-up that day has since gone on to land an Irish Group Three contest in good style so the form looks pretty solid.
Josr Algarhoud has the scope to improve further and looks a good bet to take the Goodwood feature on the way to even better things.
