GMIT shock Leitrim

GMIT... 2-13 Leitrim..

GMIT ... 2-13 Leitrim ... 2-12 Galway/Mayo Institutite of Technology scored a shock win over Leitrim in the Connacht League first round at Turloughmore yesterday after a high-scoring, entertaining feast of football.

Despite the slippery underfoot conditions this was an entertaining game and the issue was in doubt right up to the final whistle after both teams enjoyed effective spells. The winners, who trailed by 1-8 to 1-5 at half-time, had to finish the game with only 14 men as they had already used up five substitutes when Galway star Joe Bergin, who was in top form throughout, limped off late on.
