McGrath Cup: Cork Institute of Technology will face UCC in the second round of the McGrath Cup following a one-point win at Miltown Malbay on Saturday.

The sin-binning of two Clare players in the second half allowed CIT back into the game, and an opportunist goal by Cork hurler John Gardiner proved vital to the students' victory.

Clare had the better of the exchanges playing against a stiff breeze in the first half. The sides went in level, 0-5 to 0-5, at the break. Soon after the re-start the hosts opened up a three-point lead, but when goalkeeper Dermot O'Brien was sent to the sin-bin for a foot-trip the tide changed dramatically.

The resulting penalty was converted by Daniel Goulding, and moments later Clare were reduced to 13 men when Rory Donnelly was sin-binned.
