A late late goal from Colm Crowley was not enough to save Garda Training College from defeat in this tension-packed opening round Sigerson Cup game at Limerick yesterday.
Playing into the strong breeze in the first half UL fancied their prospects when they trailed by just two points after 20 minutes. Their hopes were boosted when Mark Lennon set up Damian O'Brien for a cracking goal to put them ahead 1-1 to 0-3 with Garda fighting back to finish level 1-2 to 0-5 at the interval.
When Damian O'Brien and Michael Fitzpatrick shared four points within 15 minutes of the re-start UL were well on their way.
But they got a fright when Crowley rattled in his late goal to set up an exciting finish.
