GAELIC GAMES NEWS: GALWAY HURLING officials are hoping they will finally be able to play their county senior final next weekend after the replay between Loughrea and Clarinbridge was called off on Saturday.
Galway officials will meet tonight to refix the game. The game may go ahead on Saturday as Galway football champions Killererin take on St Brigid’s of Roscommon in the Connacht club final in Tuam next Sunday. Galway’s hurling final is the last in the country following a number of draws. Pearse Stadium in Salthill was deemed doubtful all week and a contingency plan had been drawn up to move the game to Kenny Park in Athenry.
“We carried out pitch inspections at both venues on Saturday afternoon and both were deemed unplayable. We decided at that point, especially with a forecast for more rain, to call off the game rather than waiting until the morning of the match,” said Galway hurling board chairman Joe Byrne.
