Eamonn ‘Fitch’ Moules, referee of first televised All-Ireland football final, dies aged 97

Wicklowman also took charge of 1963 decider and a National League final in New York

Eamonn ‘Fitch’ Moules took charge of the first televised All-Ireland football final when Kerry beat Roscommon in 1962.

Wicklow GAA is mourning the passing of Eamonn 'Fitch' Moules who had the proud record of refereeing the first televised All-Ireland senior football final in which Kerry defeat Roscommon by 1-12 to 1-6 in 1962.

Aged 97 on Tuesday, Eamonn passed away this week. He was a household name in Wicklow GAA circles, when he refereed both the 1962 and 1963 All-Ireland football finals. In 1963 Moules was in charge of the final which saw Dublin defeat Galway by 1-9 to 0-10.

He also refereed a National League final in New York between New York and Galway, a Connacht final, several Leinster championship games and numerous county finals in Wicklow .

Moules was also a fine footballer with his native Annacurra, and also won junior hurling titles with Aughrim in a long and wonderful life within the GAA.

Eamonn will be sadly missed by his sons, John and Billy, daughters Patty and Eilish, his close family, relatives and his many friends and neighbours.
