Waterford-born rider David Casey achieved the first treble of his career at Thurles on Saturday, sparked off by a determined drive aboard the veteran Final Tub in the opener.

Val O'Brien's 15-year-old gelding, who landed a Fairyhouse bumper back in 1989, battled on tenaciously to head the top-weight and well supported favourite, Pancho's Tango, in the dying strides to notch up his 12th career victory from 95 outings.

Casey (21) wasted no time in returning to the winner's enclosure when he made all on bottomweight Bahao to win the four-runner Horse And Jockey Inn Handicap Hurdle for Ger Stack.

He went on to complete his 543 to 1 treble in the Vale Handicap Chase compliments of Inniscein, making his first racecourse appearance since suffering sore shins last June.
