Frankie Dettori salvaged a Group One victory from a weekend of unprecedented anticipation as he landed the Fillies' Mile and rode a 41 to 1 treble at Ascot yesterday. He may have fallen well short of a second magnificent seven when Jaseur brought him a solitary success at the track a day earlier. But on the true anniversary of his record-breaking feat he recorded a treble that included the coveted mile on Glorosia. The race always proves a significant guide to next year's classics.

The Godolphin colt Mudeer, now a possible Racing Post Trophy contender, set him off with a comfortable victory in the opener at odds of 8 to 13.

Then he teamed up with old mentor Luca Cumani to pull off a 10 to 1 triumph on Glorosia and later added a Listed race success on Puce at 11 to 8. The Fillies' Mile has produced two subsequent Classic winners in two years in Reams Of Verse and Bosra Sham. But Glorosia denied Henry Cecil a hat-trick of wins in the race as 2 to 1 favourite Jibe finished three-quarters of a length second and Midnight Line fifth, having twice been hampered when coming to deliver her challenge.

Dettori had intended to make the running but in the event he bided his time, while Alignment cut out the pace before seizing his chance with two furlongs to run.

"I was keeping an eye on Jibe who seemed to be going quite well but then I just kicked on and probably nicked two or three lengths," he said.

"I felt Jibe was coming but my filly ran on strongly to the line so she will be a good filly to follow next year as well."

Glorosia is a best-priced 25 to 1 for the Oaks but William Hill were impressed enough to cut her to 12 to 1 second favourite after the filly won in race record time.

"This is a good day for the Italians - Dettori, Cumani and Rocca (who won his Ryder Cup match)," said the trainer.

"Frankie and I go back a long way, he is such an exceptional rider and he made all the difference today.

"When she finished behind Midnight Line at Doncaster it was like her first race all over again and she has been working well since.

"She is more an Oaks than a Guineas filly and is bred to stay a mile and a half. She does not have the basic speed for the Guineas but has good speed for a mile and a half filly."

Cumani is in rich form. He produced three winners on Saturday when two of his team struck in Milan and Kenmist scored at Ascot.

And he claimed a 142 to 1 treble of his own but only after Ridaiyma was awarded the Tote Sunday Special Handicap on the demotion of first past the post Taufan's Melody following an objection by Kevin Darley.

Dettori shared the riding honours with Seb Sanders who captured a 209 to 1 double with a Royal Lodge Stakes victory on Teapot Row and a 20 to 1 success on Gulf Shaadi in the Mail On Sunday Mile Final.
