SWIMMING: The Irish team have brought home a record number of medals from this year's European Deaf Swimming Championships, which concluded over the weekend in Thessaloniki, Greece. The five-strong team won 12 medals, which beat their record of eight won at the 2002 Championships.

Top performer was Aer Lingus's John Kealy, who won individual gold in the 50m and 100m backstroke, the 50m butterfly and the 50m freestyle.

He was also a member of the team that won gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay and the 4x100m medley relay. This impressive haul of golds earned him the prize of being named top swimmer of the championships.

Wexford's Eoin Nolan won three individual gold medals and a silver medal, and set a European record in the 200m freestyle, her time 1:57.14.
