EVIAN MASTERS: Diana D'Alessio fired a bogey-free second-round 68 to snatch a share of the lead on 137 at the halfway stage of the Evian Masters in France yesterday.
The American carded two birdies on each nine to share the lead with South Korean rookie Jin Joo Hong, who fired a two-under-par 70.
D'Alessio and Hong are three shots clear of the nearest contenders, with Sweden's Annika Sorenstam one of three players on four under alongside the American Brittany Lincicome and the South Korean Jeong Jang.
England's Laura Davies carded a two-under-par 70 to take herself to three under at the tournament in which she finished tied-second with America's Michelle Wie last year.
Wie birdied the 18th to finish at one-under-par 71 - her first time to break par since 2006. She starts the third day at level-par 144.
PGA TOUR: Title-holder Jim Furyk took advantage of calm morning weather to charge into contention at the Canadian Open yesterday.
The American world number three fired a five-under-par 66 in the second round at the Angus Glen Golf Club to hold a share of the clubhouse lead at seven-under 135.
CHALLENGE TOUR:Stephen Browne and Colm Moriarty moved into contention at the Firstplus Wales Challenge after two dramatically contrasting rounds of golf from completely opposite ends of the low-scoring spectrum.
Moriarty posted a conventional five birdies and single dropped shot for a four-under-par 68 at the Vale Hotel Golf Resort, while Browne racked up eight birdies, six pars, three bogeys and a double bogey in a roller-coaster opening round of three-under 69.
That left the Irish pair one and two shots off the five-under lead shared by England's Tim Milford, Paraguay's Fabrizio Zanotti and Argentina's Julio Zapata.
SENIORS: France won their fourth consecutive European Senior Ladies title in Stockholm when beating England 3-2 in yesterday's final. Sweden edged out Scotland for third place.
Ireland finished 10th after losing on a tie hole to Switzerland.
VAGLIANO TROPHY: The Continent of Europe took a commanding 9-3 lead over Britain and Ireland after the first day's play in the Vagliano Trophy match at Fairmont St Andrews.
In a team captained by Mary McKenna, Ireland's Tara Delaney and Krystle Caithness from Scotland lost their foursomes match to Pernilla Lindberg and Belen Mozo by 2 and 1. Delaney also went down by one hole to Denise Becker of Germany in the singles.
YOUNG MASTERS: Stephanie Meadow added a 75 to her first-round 80 for a halfway total of 155 in the European Young Masters tournament at Golf de Bondues, France, yesterday.
Sharing the lead on 145 are Scotland's Carly Booth and Finland's Sofia Hoglund. Sarah Louise Winter is on 163 after an 86.
In the boys' section England's Eddie Pepperell shares the lead on level-par 144 after a 69 with Matteo Manassero of Italy and Slovenia's Tim Gornick. Colin Fairweather is on 152 after an 80 while Iarlaith Keane shot 80 for 165.
