CONNACHT MFC: Galway 0-11 Sligo 0-9: DANNY CUMMINS kicked five points and won the man of the match award as All-Ireland champions Galway edged out Sligo in the Connacht minor championship quarter-final at Markievicz Park on Saturday evening.

Galway endured a frustrating start, missing three goal chances in four minutes. Patrick Sweeney drilled the ball against the post after 60 seconds and shot wide in the fourth minute. In between Oisín O'Brien blasted the ball wide from the penalty spot after Cummins was impeded.

Sligo opened the scoring on five minutes when David Maye was on target from play. Danny Cummins missed a goal chance for the visitors after 20 minutes with the sides level at 0-2 apiece as Sligo led 0-7 to 0-5 at half-time.

Galway stepped up a gear in the second half, restricting Sligo to two scores.
