Alex Criville tightened his grip on the 500cc World Championship as he swept to victory in the British motor cycling Grand Prix at Donington Park. It was the 29-yearold Spaniard's 100th grand prix and gave him a fifth win of the season, extending his lead in the title race to 41 points.
Criville, who had dislocated his left hip the previous week in a high-speed crash during the Dutch TT, was on the pace throughout and finished ahead of Japan's Tadayuki Okada.
"The adrenalin made me forget the pain after Holland," said Criville. "I was slow at the start, I don't know why, then it was a case of being patient and making my move, and then being consistent."
Criville's win at Donington boosted his lead at the head of the championship standings to 41 points ahead of Okada, with Kenny Roberts 52 points adrift and is now looking good for a first world crown.
Valentino Rossi, riding for Aprilia, won the 250 cc category with fellow Italian Loris Capirossi second on a Honda.
